Dirty grey sky with a cold wind,

Rainwet streets in wintertime —

No sun to see.

Here’s the time of dreariness!

The trees are bare,

But I remember them heavy with leaves;

In my wardrobe lie the T-shirts

Of sunnier days.

Pictures of summer time journeys

Fill my empty brain

And pictures of lush greenery

Reflect before my dreamy eyes.

Joy seems inappropriate in wintertime,

Gloominess is this time’s chill —

But the laughter of brighter days

Echoes in my weary heart.

Reflections of summer

In a time of contemplation;

Memoirs of light and warmth

To lighten the burden of colder times.

So I’m waiting for spring and summer

In my room that’s holding the warmth

And the relics of the time to come.
